Gallery Grimson presents Soohyun Kim’s seventh solo exhibition. His figurative sculptures represent the ‘mass’ of human forms. Kim’s art practice started from the 1960s. He was affected by the modern abstract arts and transcended the genre to make his own style. All of his sculptures do not specify a certain person but rather explore the beauty in general human figures. Kim’s unique sense of expressing anatomy using bronze will be appreciated by viewers.
모더니즘의 양식적 특징은 조각의 본질에 대한 되새김과 더불어 조형적 자율성과 순수성이라 할 수 있다. 여기에서의 본질이란 조각이 회화와는 달리 그 매체가 입체이며 덩어리로 이루어진다는 것을 감추지 않고 드러낸다는 것을 의미하며 자율성과 순수성이란 표현 대상을 재현하는데 목적을 두지 않고 입체성과 덩어리로서의 형태와 구조를 독자적으로 해석해 가는 것을 의미한다. 예컨대 인체의 표현에 있어서 종래의 전통적 표현어법, 곧 인체 이미지를 통한 생명감과 존재감의 표현에 머물지 않고 오히려 조각 본래의 ‘매스(mass)’로서의 매체성을 강조하며 그것을 통해 이미지의 간섭작용으로부터 벗어난, 형태 독자의 조형적 안정과 조화, 그리고 균형을 찾아가는 것이 그것이다. |
