<THE SET : Inception과 만난 현실>
<The Set>연작은 아득히 멀어지는 기억의 흔적을 따라가며 꿈과 현실, 실재와 비실재를
넘나드는 몽환적 몸짓에서 출발한 작업이다. 쫓을수록 멀어지는 무의식의 잔영이 가슴속
에 가득 차오를 때면 난 도시주변 여백의 공간을 떠돈다. 숲은 언제나 차가운 도시로부터
나를 품어주는 무해한 공간이다. 또한 시간의 공존과 누적을 경험할 수 있는 터널과 같은
곳이기도 하다. 특히나 내가 갈망하는 세계는 현재를 가장한 과거의 한 지점일지도 모른다. 길게 뻗은 숲길을 막고 형형색색의 천과 소품으로 무대를 세웠다. 그리고 나는 그 안을
서성 이고 있다. 언제부터 시작된 여행인지 모른다. 그동안 마주했던 이 세계의 여백과
부재, 존재 들.... 밤낮을 잊고 써내려갔던 이야기들이 허공에 흩어진다. 난 이 곳에서 상실의 세계, 잃어버 린 꿈을 찾아 떠돈다. 몇 번의 계절이 지나서야 한편의 극이 완성되었다. 현실엔 존재하지 않을 것만 같은 나만의 특별한 공간 안에서 꿈꾸듯 부유하는 자아의 흔적들을 모아본다. 숲에 설치된 낯선 장식물은 꿈에 대한 기억의 단서이며, 가면을 쓴 채 무대 위를 유영하는 셀프연출은 자신의 존재를 지우고 연기하듯 살아가는 현대인들의 슬픈 자화상이기도
하다. 상상 세계를 동화의 한 장면처럼 구성하여 현실 속에 허구를 밀어 넣고 다시 그 허구 속에 현실을 밀어넣어 꿈과 현실의 경계를 넘나들며 자유롭게 유영하는 자아는 나만의
독특한 내러티브를 만들고자 함이다. 또한 가상의 공간에서 기억을 쫓아 자유롭게 유영하는 무대 위 주인공처럼 현실에서도 꿈을 기억하고 삶에 하나 하나의 행복이 더해지기를 갈망하는 적극적 행위이기도 하다.
<The Set: Inception meets Reality>
<The Set> is a series that stems for the dreamlike maneuvers we experience when
we set to track the trails of memory, weaving in and out of dream & reality,
existence & non-existence. I wander along the vacant spaces around the city
when the traces of unconsciousness fill my mind. The forest is a perfect safe
hideout that protects me from the cold city. It is also a tunnel where we can
experience the co-existence and cumulation of time. The world that I desire could
a point back in the past disguised as the present.
Closing out the long pathway in the forest, I set up a stage with fabric and objects
of various colors. I am wandering inside the stage. I can’t seem to recall when
the journey began. The vacancy, non-existence & existence that I encountered
along the way… Stories that filled my days and nights are sprinkled in mid-air.
Here, I am wandering in search of lost dreams and the lost world. Many seasons
past and the play is ready. I have gathered part of my self-consciousness that
float like dreams in my special space that is out of this world.
The strange objects installed in the forest are leads to my memory of dreams, and
the self-displays strolling across the stage represents the sad self-portrait of
contemporary lives living like actors, disguising their true selves. Like a fairy tale, I
have portrayed my imagination scenery enfolding reality inside fiction, and fiction
inside reality, to create a freely floating ego in and out of dream and reality and
present an original narrative. It is an active action in hopes of adding happiness to
life, remembering dreams, like an actor freely floating in virtual space in search of
memories.
