 Unstable balance 21- car 60.5x70cm acrylic on canvas 2021 "Unstable Balance & Building Balance" 작품은 회화의 본질에 대한 질문으로부터 진행되었습니다. 회화의 평면성과 재현의 문제는 자연스레 2차원 자체의 질문과 2차원을 이루는 방법들로 이어졌고, 2차원의 최소단위인 ‘직선’과 형상의 최소단위인 기본 도형 및 색상의 기본인 삼원색 등을 중심으로 작품들을 제작하였습니다. 선이 쌓여 색과 면이 되고, 그 면들이 기본 도형을 이루는 과정들은 선과 색이라는 입자적이며 시각적인 요소가 물감의 물질성과 결합하여 의미화 되는 전환의 순간을 보여줍니다. 작품 속 ‘직선’은 물감의 덩어리가 긴 튜브처럼 늘여져 부피감을 이루고 있습니다. 선의 부피감 및 물질성의 강조를 통해 의미화되기 전의 ‘선’자체와 실제 하지 않는 ‘선’의 의미를 강조하려고 의도하였습니다. 의미를 갖는 순간은 그 의미의 지시성이 다양하다는 측면에서 불안정합니다. 그림에서 형상성 역시 언제나 재현 또는 의미 생성의 지점을 발생하게 합니다. 그러나 기본 도형 쌓기는 쌓기가 높이를 가질수록 ‘대지만이 가로로 누워있고 대지 위에 모든 것은 수직으로 세워져 있다’는 세잔의 말대로 형상성을 부각시키고, ‘균형’이라는 시각성을 강조합니다. 이러한 ‘균형 쌓기(Building Balance)’의 불안정함(Unstable Balance)을 통해 지속적으로 발생하는 의미 쌓기의 불안정함도 되묻고자 하였습니다.
My Art
has been started from a question about the essence of paintings. The matter
between representation and flatness naturally flows into the question of the
method to constitute 2 dimensional itself. The main themes of my art are
“line,” the basic element of 2 dimensions, “figure,” the motive of formation,
“RGB,” the basic element of color. When I build the lines, it forms a color and
a plane, and the planes form basic formations. This process shows a moment of
change that lines and colors become a mass, when the paint straight out of the
tube has materiality, combining the elements. “Straight lines” in my paintings
are creating masses as the chunk of paint is starched like a long tube. To
enhance the materiality and mass of the line, I try to separate between the
line that has meanings and the line doesn’t exist in reality. When the form
loses the meaning, I feel unstable because the forms could be interpreted in
diverse ways. Formation could have
representational form or certain meanings. However, the higher I build up basic
formations, the more “balance” is enhanced. I want to ask through my art, with
“Building balance” and “Unstable balance,” how it constantly creates
representational meanings. |
